Winter Activities in Knoxville

December is here! The month of holiday cheer and winter fun. Looking for your winter wonderland in Knoxville, Tennessee? Look no further! Here is a list of winter events happening in downtown Knoxville—all within a mile of the Daniel!

The Daniel is in the Holiday Spirit this Winter in Knoxville

Winter Window Wonderland

Take a stroll through the Old City and Downtown this December on the Peppermint Trail! Every year, the Knoxville community competes in a contest for best dressed holiday storefront. And, boy, have we been working hard. So grab a hot cocoa and promenade the Peppermint Trail!

Check out Downtown Knoxville’s website for information about transportation and a map of contestants.

Ice Skating in Market Square

Each year in December, our neighbors at Home Federal Bank present Knoxville’s Holidays on Ice—an open-air ice skating rink located right in the middle of Market Square! Once you’ve worked up a chill, warm up with a hot chocolate at the snack bar or grab dinner at one of the nearby restaurants that line Market Square.

Check out the rink’s Facebook page for ticket information and hours.

WIVK Christmas Parade

You won’t even have to leave your apartment for this event!

Cozy up to your window with some Christmas tunes for the WIVK Christmas Parade! This Friday at 7pm a band of floats (and actual bands) will be making its way across Downtown right to The Daniel on Jackson Avenue with a special appearance by the jolly man himself, Santa Claus! Get your holiday spirit ready for the event of the season!

Holiday Market

If you are shopping small this Christmas, the Knoxville Holiday Market is your place to be! Check out the selection of local gifts and festive decorations lining Union and Market. During your stroll, stop for a warm drink from one of the local food trucks. The Holiday Market is coming to Market Square on December 2, 10, & 17 from 11 am til 5 pm. Don’t miss out!

Jingle Bell Run

Ready to break in those Black Friday sneakers and run off that Thanksgiving rump? Jump into the Jingle Bell Run 5K taking place just a mile from The Daniel at World’s Fair Park! The race takes off at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 10. All proceeds benefit the Arthritis Foundation. This event is for everyone so bring your family, your roommate, or even your neighbor down the hall!

It’s A Wonderful Life

The Tennessee Theater is opening its doors Sunday, December 11th for two free showings of It’s A Wonderful Life. I repeat, free showings! The first screening will begin at 1 pm, followed by a second showing at 5 pm. No tickets required!

Be sure not to miss out on all the other great holiday shows from the Tennessee Theater, including Rodger & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. Just a short walk up Gay Street from the Daniel.

Check out the Tennessee Theater’s website for more information.

Holiday Swing Dance

Holidays have you feeling sentimental? Throw on your blue suede shoes and hop a few blocks over to Phoenix Pharmacy & Fountain Wednesday, December 14 for a night of classic fun. Swing dancing lessons begin at 7:30 pm, then dance the night away with a treat from the Soda Fountain!

Check out the Facebook event for more information and to RSVP.

Tour de Lights

If you’d rather not celebrate on the sidelines, Knoxville has a parade that you can throw yourself into (or, rather, pedal yourself into). Bring your bike out on December 16th during the Tour de Lights for a 5 mile route across Knoxville. Lights, costumes, and decorations are encouraged and there will be snacks and hot cocoa provided for all participants.

Check out I BIKE KNX for the schedule and contest information.
